Follow the high-alpine trail along the southeastern end of Entiat Ridge to one of the most historic and visually stunning summits in Chelan County. This tour takes you deep into the backcountry for an unforgettable ridge-driving experience.
- The Ascent: Climb the historic, narrow mountain roads to the rugged crest of Chumstick Mountain, tracing a route built by forest road crews nearly a century ago.
- The History: Stand on the site of the historic 1931 Chumstick Fire Lookout. Discover its roots as a 1914 heliograph signaling station and learn how early lookouts used mirrors and compasses to protect the Wenatchee National Forest.
- The View: From a breathtaking elevation of 5,810 feet, experience a massive 360-degree panorama featuring Glacier Peak, the Icicle Range, Mount Stuart, the Enchantments, and the sprawling Columbia Plateau.
- Highlight: Witness firsthand how nature regenerates as we trace the path of historic wildfires, offering a powerful, up-close look at the dramatic, changing landscape of the Cascades.

To Enjoy Your Adventure
- What to Wear: Dress in comfortable outdoor clothing and sturdy walking shoes. Because temperatures shift as we climb, layering your clothing is highly recommended (especially in spring and fall).
- Sun & Eye Protection: We highly recommend sunglasses, sunscreen, and hats. If you wear contact lenses, you may want to wear sunglasses or switch to eyeglasses to protect against the open-air breeze.
- Trail Conditions & Dust: Backcountry mountain roads can get dusty in the summer. Please note: This open-air experience may not be suitable for guests with high sensitivity to dust.
- Eco-Friendly Hydration: Please bring your own reusable water container! We are actively working to eliminate single-use plastics in the backcountry. (Bonus: Guests on our Sugarloaf Summit Tour will get to refill their bottles directly from a pristine, fresh mountain spring along the route!)
- Safety on the Land: While exploring outside the vehicle, please watch your step on the uneven mountain terrain. You are responsible for your own safety on public land, so please feel free to ask your guide for assistance at any time.
General Information
- Season & Hours: Open May to October, 6 days a week (Closed on Independence Day).
- Age Requirements: There is no minimum age requirement, but all children aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
- Car Seats & Boosters: Per Washington State law, children under age 2 must ride rear-facing, and children under age 8 (unless at least 4'9" tall) require a car seat or booster. Guests must provide and install their own child safety seats.
- Health & Safety: Our off-road tours are not recommended for pregnant women or individuals with back, neck, or serious injuries.
- Gratuity: Guide gratuity is not included in the tour price; a 15% gratuity is standard and highly appreciated for excellent service.
- Changes & Cancellations: Tour availability and pricing are subject to change. We reserve the right to alter, modify, or cancel any tour due to weather, unsafe trail conditions, or U.S. Forest Service directives.
- Prohibited Items: For the comfort and safety of all guests, we do not allow firearms/weapons, smoking/e-cigarettes, drones, alcohol, coolers, glass containers, professional video gear, illegal substances, or cremated remains.
