Sugarloaf Summit Tour

The Ultimate High-Alpine Perspective

Difficulty: Advanced (Primarily due to the short trek required to reach the summit)

Ascend to one of the most iconic vantage points in the Central Cascades. This tour is designed for those who want to stand where the clouds roam and gain a true bird’s-eye view of Washington's vast wilderness.

  • The Ascent: Navigate winding forest service roads and rocky terrain as we climb toward the historic Sugarloaf Lookout.
  • The History: Learn about the vital role of fire lookouts in the Pacific Northwest and the resilient wildfire ecology that shapes the landscape you see today.
  • The View: At the spectacular 5,814-foot summit, enjoy panoramic 360-degree views of the Entiat Mountains, the Glacier Peak Wilderness, and the sprawling valley below.
  • Highlight: Photography enthusiasts will find unparalleled opportunities to capture the jagged horizon of the Cascades from a premier elevation.

Note: Guests on this tour will walk a moderate 1/3-mile trail to reach the summit lookout. The final stretch of the road is closed to vehicles due to lingering post-fire hazards and environmental recovery from the Lower Sugarloaf Fire.

More About Our Guided, Off-Road Tours

To Enjoy Your Adventure

  • What to Wear: Dress in comfortable outdoor clothing and sturdy walking shoes. Because temperatures shift as we climb, layering your clothing is highly recommended (especially in spring and fall).
  • Sun & Eye Protection: We highly recommend sunglasses, sunscreen, and hats. If you wear contact lenses, you may want to wear sunglasses or switch to eyeglasses to protect against the open-air breeze.
  • Trail Conditions & Dust: Backcountry mountain roads can get dusty in the summer. Please note: This open-air experience may not be suitable for guests with high sensitivity to dust.
  • Eco-Friendly Hydration: Please bring your own reusable water container! We are actively working to eliminate single-use plastics in the backcountry. (Bonus: Guests on our Sugarloaf Summit Tour will get to refill their bottles directly from a pristine, fresh mountain spring along the route!)
  • Safety on the Land: While exploring outside the vehicle, please watch your step on the uneven mountain terrain. You are responsible for your own safety on public land, so please feel free to ask your guide for assistance at any time.
